ARIZONA STATE BOARD FOR CHARTER SCHOOLS UNANIMOUSLY APPROVES CHARTER FOR
VISTA COLLEGE PREPARATORY CHARTER SCHOOL

K-5 Public Charter School Scheduled to Open in August 2013

Phoenix, AZ – Vista College Preparatory Charter School (“Vista College Prep”), a Kindergarten through 5th grade, tuition-free, public charter school was approved by the Arizona State Board for Charter Schools on January 14, 2013.  The school’s strong focus on the acquisition of early literacy skills and leadership development will give students the foundation necessary to excel in demanding college preparatory middle and high schools.

“We believe that long-term academic and life success begins in the early elementary years,” said Julia Meyerson, Vista College Prep’s Lead Founder. “All children, regardless of background or socioeconomic status, can achieve at high levels. In a structured, safe, and supportive learning environment, our students will be on track to enter, succeed in, and graduate from college.” Vista College Prep was founded on the philosophy that demographics do not determine destiny, exceptional teachers drive high academic performance, and an achievement-oriented school culture, infused with joy and rigor, fosters a strong learning environment. “We are thrilled with the outpouring of community support we have received for a high performing college preparatory elementary school,” said Vista College Prep’s Board Chair Charles Mitchell. “We have an incredible opportunity to transform children’s lives, and look forward to working with the entire Phoenix community as we set our students on the path to college starting in kindergarten.”

Lead Founder Julia Meyerson has the national support of the Building Excellent Schools Fellowship, a national charter school creation program that trains, supports and mentors individuals to design, found, sustain, and lead urban public schools of uncompromising excellence. Vista College Prep is currently accepting applications for its inaugural kindergarten and first grade classes for the 2013-2014 school year.  Parents seeking information about enrollment or those wishing to help support the work of Vista College Prep should contact Julia Meyerson at 602.625.7893 or jmeyerson@vistacollegeprep.org.
